4 March 2012, Muro Leccese, Italy — In KZ1 the weekend starts with a bang. On Saturday, Hájek is very fast (3rd in both heats) and conquers 3rd place on the grid for Final 1. He’s fighting for victory, but after a few laps a damaged muffler forces him to leave, making him start from the last row in Sunday’s heat 1. Here he recovers nicely and lands in the first rows of the start grid for Final 2 where, after a great start, a contact makes him lose positions: Hájek holds on and climbs back up to 8th place (3rd best lap overall). Lammers, instead, is unlucky in the heats (20th, penalized by 10 seconds, then 11th) and in the final he has to chase: he keeps his cool, recovers well and is 12th at the finish-line. On Sunday, the Dutch driver is one of the fastest on track (7th and 4th with the second best lap in the heats) and conquers 5th place for the start of Final 2. Yet, here a contact makes him lose the top positions (11th). In KZ2 Martin Doubek has alternate fate in the heats (24th and 14th) and then recovers nicely in Final 1, but a penalty stops him at 13th place. On Sunday, a penalty in heat 1 again “slows” him down (here he closes 18th), but in heat 2 he takes full advantage of the potential of his Praga Kart and ends in 4th place. In Final 2 he tries to get out of mid-group traffic and succeeds only in part (placing 14th), but the lap times scored on track bid well for future races.
