Praga ambassador Jimmy Broadbent completed the fastest lap in class and the fastest lap of the day in the Praga R1 at Round 5 of the Time Attack Championship at Oulton Park.
Racing in the Pro Extreme Class, Jimmy started the day by completing the fastest time in the Warm Up in 1:24.059 and then the fastest time in the Practice in 1:23.017. In Qualifying, Jimmy once again completed the fastest time in class with a lap time of 1:22.017, and went on to finish first in the Final with the fastest lap time of 1:22.149.
Jimmy’s Qualifying time of 1:22.017 in the Praga won him first place in the combined Pro Classes, completing his lap 3.225 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Colin Dorwood, in the Mitsubishi Evo IX.
Jimmy Broadbent commented; “Oulton Park is Praga UK’s home circuit so we were keen to come and show what the R1 can do. Driving the R1 is proper formula style driving and always an intense experience – it’s brilliant, it’s amazing. We’ve had a lot of attention from fans and other drivers here today and I’ve loved it because the Praga is a very special bit of kit.”
Mark Harrison, Managing Director of Praga Cars UK said; “Jimmy is getting faster and faster and doing an excellent job in the Praga. We aimed to be the fastest car on track on the day, and Jimmy nailed it! The R1 is designed to deliver a raw driving experience and it’s the balance between the car’s light weight, aerodynamics and downforce that mean it regularly outpaces larger more powerful cars on track.”
While this was the first time that a Praga R1 has competed in the Time Attack Championship, the inaugural Praga Cup one-make race series is producing excellent lap times across the UK’s most popular race circuits.
Racing alongside the Britcar calendar, the Praga Cup regularly achieves the best lap times across the board on race weekends. For example, professional racing driver Alex Kapadia set Praga’s fastest lap on the Silverstone GP track of 1:55:407 during Qualifying in Round 1 in March, beating the fastest 2022 British GT3 Championship lap times in the process.
Praga Cup 2022 | Circuit | Track Distance (miles) | Fastest lap | Driver |
Round 1 | Silverstone GP | 3.66 miles | 01:55:407 | Alex Kapadia |
Round 2 | Oulton Park International | 2.69 miles | 01:31:278 | Tommy Foster |
Round 3 | Snetterton 300 | 2.968 miles | 01:45:516 | Gordie Mutch |
Round 4 | Silverstone National | 1.6404 miles | 00:52:884 | Gordie Mutch |
Drivers looking to experience the Praga R1 are currently invited to book onto upcoming Arrive and Drive Test Days with Praga’s official R1 dealer for the UK and Ireland, Praga Racing UK.
Jimmy will be back in the Praga R1 for Round 5 of the Praga Cup which will take place at Donington Park on 20th – 21st August.
