Praga Goes Racing with Supercar Driver

Praga Cars has been confirmed as Supercar Driver’s (SCD) first ever ‘Official Racing Partner’, agreeing a partnership with the UK’s leading supercar owners community that will see Praga karts and the Praga R1 take to tracks in the UK at a number of SCD events.

Not only that, but Praga has also offered SCD’s very own Stig, Miles Lacey, a seat for the 2021 Britcar Endurance Championship representing SCD as part of Praga Cars’ Britcar ‘Guest Driver’ programme. Miles has already experienced the 2020 Britcar Endurance Championship-winning R1 at a cold and damp Donington Park back in November, 2020.

Miles Lacey, Development Driver, said: “I’d like to play it cool and act like these kinds of opportunities roll through the door on a daily basis, but I’d be a fraud. When the call came in from Praga offering a seat in their brand new Praga R1 for a full season, I couldn’t believe my ears! Working closely with SCD for the last few years, we’ve done some wonderful and wild things along the way, and to be asked to represent them in the Britcar Championship is an honour and a privilege.

“The emphasis on team spirit within Praga is more than refreshing; the support I’ve experienced already from Praga HQ and the fellow SCD cohort has properly revved me up for the journey ahead. Rest assured I’ll give it absolutely everything to do everyone proud and tell the story over the course of the season. It’s going to be a wild ride!”

As SCD’s Official Racing Partner, Praga will not only fly the SCD flag at Britcar with Miles at the likes of Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Donington Park, but also provide unique access to the R1 at SCD events and track days.

Mark Harrison, Praga Cars UK Managing Director, said: “I have seen SCD grow since its launch and I’m really pleased to be working with Adam and his team, hopefully helping them to even greater success in their second decade. Our ambition through this partnership is to add a new attraction for SCD members in 2021, then continue into 2022 and beyond, ultimately growing the SCD presence on racing grids in the UK and abroad. The great thing about Praga is that, as a karting brand as well as a championship-winning racing car producer, we offer diverse appeal across the generations, from kids, through teenagers and up to their parents and even grandparents.”

As in 2020, where the R1 featured at events such as SCD’s Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb and the SCD Secret Meet, Praga will demonstrate the R1 at SCD’s track-based events and display the car where track access is not on the agenda. In addition, Praga is also planning karting events for SCD members, and will host a number of drives and exclusive events for SCD members at the new UK headquarters near Oulton Park race track in Cheshire.

SCD founder, Adam Thorby, said: “It goes without saying that all the team at SCD are excited about the relationship with Praga Cars and watching it develop over the coming months, both the racing with Miles at the helm and the opportunities available to our members. For me, working directly with the manufacturer opens up all sorts of exclusive opportunities, way more than we’ve detailed in this communication. Praga proved last year they could add some spice to proceedings and in 2021, they are levelling up!”.
